Students Attend Fall Leadership Conference

Students attended the State FCCLA Fall Leadership Conference at Tan-Tar-A in late October. Students were able to participate in sessions to build leadership skills, develop project ideas, and learn more about what FCCLA has to offer. Newborns in Need

In December, several members were busy preparing for our next project.  Members decided to have a baby shower to support Newborns in Need.  Newborns in Need is an organization that helps families needing help with newborns who are sick.  Members advertised the shower, made invitations and flyers, and set up for the shower.  Organizers hoped to raise awareness of premature births and children in need as well as collect items to donate to Newborns in Need.  When the drive was complete the students had collected 50 items valued at more than $250 to donate to Newborns in Need.  We plan to host another event in the spring to continue our work with this organization.  

Share Your Christmas

Sometimes you plan projects and have more of a response than you ever thought possible.  That’s what happened when we organized the second annual Share Your Christmas Food Drive for students in preschool through grade 12.  When members started planning, they never imagined how involved people would get.  After 7 days of collecting foods, we ended up with more than 2300 items to put together food baskets for local families.  The sixth grade and the sophomore class were the winners of the pizza party reward for bringing in the most items.  But the collection didn’t end there.  While the food was being counted and sorted, students went door to door and picked up community donations of food items.  This collection brought in another 500 items to our food drive.  Once we were finished collecting, members sorted the canned and boxed food into 45 families that are being helped by the Share Your Christmas program from the Walnut Grove community.

Holiday Fundraiser

In an effort to raise money for our chapter, we will be selling photo holders starting this week. They are $5 each and hold 10 pictures each. We would be glad to specialize any order. Check out some samples!

Distracted Driving Kills

Today two students, Haley Harman and Daryl Smith, were whited out for the Arrive Alive campaign. Students were not allowed to speak for the day to represent being a victim of texting and driving. The students wore signs that said, "Distracted Driving Kills. Texting and driving is 6 times more likely to cause a crash than driving while impaired. Buckle Up and Arrive Alive." In the above photo, students listen to Sgt. Dan Bracker from the Missouri State Highway Patrol gave a strong message about texting, seatbelts, and driving while impaired.
